Digital Etiquette - Question 4

Bad digital etiquette examples:

·        Writing in all caps

Writing in all capital letters online is considered yelling and will therefore be bad digital etiquette since it is seen as rude (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

 

·        Spamming

Spamming is sending the same message indiscriminately a massive amount of internet users (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

 

 

·        Stealing other people’s identity

Identity theft (also known as catfishing) is when a cybercriminal gains access to your personal information to steal money or gain other benefits (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

 

·        Posting without permission

Not asking for permission before you post things online that doesn’t belong to you (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

 

·        Hacking:

Hacking is conducted with purpose to gain information that is not theirs. They have the ability to destroy online reputations by leaking personal information or content out to the public for the world to see (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

 

·        Arguing online

Sometimes your thoughts and opinions may get the better of you when you’re getting involved in discussions on online threads when you don't agree with other people. It is there is seen as bad etiquette when a person insults or attacks another person based off of their opinions (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

·        Inappropriate jokes

 

Inappropriate jokes are jokes that could offend people. It can also include making a joke on a thread that already consists of content that is upsetting or distressing. It is therefore considered bad etiquette to make jokes that is considered inappropriate to other people (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

 

·        Disrespecting people’s privacy

Taking someone’s personal and private information and putting it online without their permission or knowledge of you doing it can be seen as bad etiquette (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).

 

·        Denying other individuals the right to express themselves

Everyone is allowed the right to have their own personal views and opinions about a certain topic that is being discussed and denying that person the right to an opinion is considered bad etiquette (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020)

 

·        Ignoring requests for help online

It is bad etiquette if you ignore somebody asking you for help with a certain situation such as where they can find information or just asking a general question (The Cybersmile Foundation, 2020).
